Originally a manuscript presented to Harold Warne's daughter as a Christmas present, but with one of the illustrations it contained cut-out for use in the book. The tale tells of two shopkeepers, the eponymous Ginger & Pickles, who extend unlimited credit to their customers (a veritable who's-who of characters from Beatrix's other works) and, as a result, are forced to go out of business. One of Warne's larger format Potter books. QUINBY 17a. Orig. publisher's tan boards, color pictorial inset front cover. Fine in fine velvet lined half green morocco and green cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, raised bands and spine panels also gilt. Box bound by Asprey. Item #22004
