An English naturalist he served an apprenticeship with a bookseller, married Daniel Defoe's daughter, Sophia, and was associated with Defoe in launching the UNIVERSAL SPECTATOR and WEEKLY JOURNAL. In 1744 he received the Copley gold medal for microscopical observations on the crystallization of saline particles. Baker was one of the founders of the Society of Arts in 1754. Age-toning title page head and with small hand notation at margin head. Modest test toning, plates fresh and crisp.
