Paris: Librairie Centrale Des Beaux-Arts, 1905. First edition. Boards. 14 pages in text. Folio, 46 x 34 cm. Preface by Gustave Geffroy includes 43 text figures. Sixty black and white or tinted plates, some also colored by pochoir. Geffroy is noted as one of the earliest historians of the Impressionist art movement. He knew and championed Monet, whom he met in 1886. Monet introduced him to Cézanne, who painted his portrait in 1895. Binet's Art Nouveau designs for a variety of applied arts including ceramics, jewelry, wallpaper, furniture. light fixtures, gardens, ironwork and related decorative art subjects. Binet also designed le Magazines du Printemps in Paris, and the grand entrance for the Exposition Universelle in Paris, 1900. His suggestions for new decorative art designs reflect his Empire roots, but with the contemporary influences of Art Nouveau and the emerging Jugenstil. Interior contents clean, title page slightly toned at fore-edge, joint nicks and wear. Orig. illustrated tan boards, cloth spine, lacking cloth ties. Very good. Item #18634
