These early tragedies herein adumbrate a large portion of the Elizabethan drama. Haslewood has added some biographical notes, including collations of all the early editions, and notes on the variations of the text. Painter, clerk of Queen Elizabeth's Ordinance compiled the collection of stories, and like others amassed a personal fortune through embezzlement, endemic in the Elizabethan civil service. An austerely, wide margined but finely printed work. Book labels, very clean and fresh internally, slight toning first few endpapers Vol.I, modest extremity rubbing, tight binding, raised bands gilt decorated.
