London: Hamilton, Adams, And Co, 1858. New and enlarged Edition. Hardcover. 286 pages. 25.5 x 18.5 cm. Thirty plates, all with tissue guards, of which 28 are in color using the Leighton Brothers Chromatic Process, two tinted lithographs, and 69 woodcuts in the text. Dedicated to Michael Faraday. George Cargill Leighton was a distinguished pupil of George Baxter who established polychromatic printing by the type-press in oil colors.
