This work completed by Whistler during the heat wave in the summer of 1941 while serving in the Welsh Guards during WW II. Whistler illustrates Mason's romantic tale from the days of the Grand Alliance against Louis XIV in a setting of German Baroque palaces and gardens. Backstrip rubbed at extremities and sunned.
