Limited edition, copy 61 of 135 signed by Brianchon on Barcham Green paper, printed by Mourlot in Romain Du Roi type intwo colors. 12 original color lithographed plates by Maurice Brianchon. Inscribed in ink, lengthy dedication by the publisher, Alfred Daber to the American Ambassador Charles Bohlen, for US service to France in two world wars. Maurice Brianchon, a French painter known as one of the Peintres de la Réalite Poétique, or Painters of Poetic Reality. He studied at the at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His early work is characterized by dynamic images of horse races, theater stages, and street scenes. He was the subject of a major retrospective at the Louvre in 1951, and the following year, was selected as one of the official artists of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of England. Marivaux is considered one of the most important French playwrights of the 18th century, writing numerous comedies for the Comédie-Française and the Comédie-Italienne of Paris.
