In the early 1890's she became the first president of the new University of Chicago. Throughout her academic career she was a staunch advocate of higher education for women during the late 19th century. Palmer's life was commemorated at a service at Harvard University in 1903 attended by college presidents whom she knew and other notable individuals in higher education. Unopened, printed at the Merrymount Press by D.B. Updike. Orig. vellum spine and dark gray boards. Fine in tattered original glassine. Item #21071
