ABBEY SCENERY, 207. John Britton, [topographer and antiquarian] and a contemporary of Ireland "did not think much of Ireland's text and embellishments, but he liked the `pretty aquatints." [see: RUSSELL, p. 50]. BRYAN, Vol.III,p.96. "In 1782 he exhibited at the Royal Academy.....and two years later `Picturesque Views on The River Thames,' and then similar views on the Medway, Avon, Wye and Severn - all compiled solely on authority of others, or drawn from his own imagination, and worked by him in mezzotint."
