"Robert Morris Copeland was one of that remarkable generation of landscaped architects which included F.L. Olmsted, H.W.S. Cleveland, and Charles Eliot. Copeland's treatises were popular and widely read and may be considered as the logical and worthy successor to Downing's, `A Treatise on The Theory and Practice of Landscape Gardening, etc.' The book contains much information on ornamental gardening." Owner inscription free front endpaper dated 1859. The lithograph frontispiece is a plan for laying out a country place of 60 acres; with chapters on orchards, farms, gardens, greenhouses, etc. A remarkably clean, fresh copy, no foxing, only fault, slight nicks to backstrip head and foot. Gilt backstrip lettering reasonably bright. Orig. brown textured cloth, cover panels in blind. Near fine. Item #22466
