Andre Dignimont, in a career spanning over four decades, primarily worked in illustrating books and theatre decoration. This style perfectly evokes the emotions of this collection of Baudelaire's poetry which expresses the changing nature of beauty in modern, industrializing Paris during the 19th century and coined the term modernité (modernity) to designate the fleeting, ephemeral experience of life in an urban metropolis. Bookplate. Loose as issued in orig. stiff wrappers front cover lettered in red, housed in fine board chemise in fine matching slipcase. Item #22814
