Virginia Lee Burton won the Caldecott Medal for this beloved children's classic, which along with Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel is her best-known work. She said that the story was based on her own house's experience of being moved from the street to a field full of daisies. GROLIER CHILDREN'S 86. In tune with the 19th century Arts and Crafts movement, she founded the textile collective, Folly Cove Designers, in Cape Ann, Massachusetts and designed some of the textiles.
