Polonius. The Tallest Fittest Properest Man to walk before the King

London: S.W. Fores, 7 November 1795. Cruikshank, Isaac. Wraps. 40 x 26.5 cm. Hand colored etching. The Marquis of Salisbury, holding a long wand of office and wearing military uniform, with a plumed cap and spurred boots, walks stiffly in profile to the left, his coat-tails flying out behind him. His gold key of office is hung to a blue ribbon which crosses his shoulder. Above his left boot is a garter inscribed 'Hone' [sic]. He is caricatured, and has a long projecting nose. Below the title. Lacking portions at left and right corners at head, crease at bottom right margin. Krumbhaar 195. Very good. Item #22992
