This work, similar to Racinet's "Ornament Polychrome," provides a visual historic to design from Egyptian to the 18th century, with the last section on Chinese, Persian and Arab art. The author, a collector of fabrics served as the basis for illustrations herein. His collection exhibited at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in 1880 with a portion offered for sale at the Hotel Drouot in 1885. Those familiar with Owen Jones' "Grammar of Ornament" will see a host of similar chromolithograph design examples here. Ex-library, bookplate of the Museum of Fine Art Boston with withdrawn stamp. Interior contents fresh, bright and clean with no or imperfections. Covers worn at extremities and spine ends, binding tight. Three quarter brown morocco and brown boards. Teg. Very good.
