The Certain Travailes of an Uncertain Journey, Begun on Tuesday the 9. of August and ended on Saturday the 3. of September following 1653

Np: Np, 1873. Stiff Wraps. 22 pages. 21 x 14 cm. One of six copies printed on pink paper. Known as the Water Poet. Despite having been one of the most widely read poets in Stuart England, there is a disparity between Taylor's contemporary acclaim and his modern obscurity. Much of his works were published by subscription. John Taylor's development of travel literature, which came into popularity in the 1500s, solidified his career and public image, and his travels were often funded through bets made by the public as to whether he would complete his journey. His humble beginning and lack of grace in language prevented him to enter fully into the world of London's literary elite. Covers dusty with small chips to front cover. OCLC 504602751. Orig. cloth spine, illustrated front cover. Very good. Item #23691

Price: $250.00
