His celebrated novel forced him to censor to assure the publication of the book would not be challenged by the English authorities. A tale of World War I whose main character is Captain George Winterbourne a causality in battle. The author also served in WWI. Laid-in is a 1916 photograph of Aldington in his British uniform, and a second photograph of Aldington by Man Ray in civilian attire. Aldington was also a distinguished poet and editor of "The Egoist," a literary journal, and an early associate of the Imagist movement.
